The Holy Archangels Orthodox Foundation is an independent religious organization, incorporated as a tax exempt (1) charitable institution in Washington, DC, for the purpose of supporting the advancement of the Orthodox Catholic faith through the dissemination of its teachings by publications, symposiums and retreats, and through the utilization of communications media.

Picture+Bishop Basil (Rodzianko)
The Foundation was originally established in the 1980s as the Holy Archangels Broadcasting Center to help support the broadcasting ministry, to Russia, of the late Right Reverend +Bishop Basil (Rodzianko), retired bishop of San Francisco and the West.  His weekly talks and sermons, in the last years of the Cold War, were carried on the BBC and played an important role in the re-emergence of Orthodox Christianity in Russia.  Broadcasts originated from a small private chapel and living quarters in Washington, DC.

+Metropolitan Jonah
As an expression of its mission, the Foundation is helping to support the pastoral and evangelical ministry of his beatitude +Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen), retired Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) and of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). The continuing ministry includes the serving of weekly liturgies at a chapel in his home in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC.  In addition, the following classes and sermons and special events are regularly provided by +Metropolitan Jonah.

  • 2013 Seminar, Orthodoxy as a Spiritual Discipline (Orthodoxy 101) is a program that brings together Orthodox history, theology, ecclesiology and questions on how to live the faith in the 21st century. This seminar is hosted at St. Mark Orthodox Church in Bethesda, Maryland, and is reminiscent of a lively university exchange with engaging discussions, voluntary out-of-class research by participants, and assigned readings.   • 2012 Lenten Seminar - 1 Corinthians is a completed weekly seminar offered this past Great Lent of 2013. The seminar included Scriptural reading, historical overview, contextual lecture, and active discussion.  Audio recordings are available through the button to the right.
